The Reward for Saving The World is a Husband - Chapter 13
Are you seriously asking if I proposed to that frog-like creature? Over my precious reward, my Pair, Elias?
“Did he accept? So you were trying to get the real information about the dragon from him?”
His bright blue eyes, which seemed to boil with high temperatures before, were now icy cold, just frozen.
“Beric Tenaclade. If you knew his background, you might think that he’s a better catch. But it’s better not to believe that he’ll keep his promises. Unless you want to be used and then discarded.”
“…..”
After observing Elias speak at length for the first time since we met, I came to one conclusion.
‘I like him when he’s like this!’
The way he suppresses his anger and pretends to be calm. Plus, he looked more intellectual than usual, possibly because he was wearing glasses, whether or not he came from his office.
“……..Why are you silent?”
A frown creased his handsome brow.
“If you’ve decided it’s not even worth responding to…”
“A Pair isn’t something you can just form with anyone.”
I opened my mouth to clear up his misunderstanding.
“I only proposed to you, Elias. That’s not something that can change.”
Although I spoke only the truth, it seemed he was not quite reassured by my words.
“Then what about the information about the dragon you were going to tell Beric?”
It was crucial to avoid making it sound like I used the information as bait to deceive him. It wouldn’t be good to be seen as a woman who lies well.
“Well, even though it’s dead, there’s still a lot I could say about the dragon. What its appearance was like, what color its scales were, what form it preferred when in human shape.”
Elias’s eyes widened.
“Then does it take human form as well…?”
“Of course. It can transform into any creature that exists in this world, not just humans.”
“If it decides to hide, it would be incredibly hard to find.”
I nodded in agreement at his muttering. Unless one was as sensitive to the flow of mana as I was, it would indeed be difficult to identify a dragon disguised as another species.
“I can share this kind of information with you as well. However, as I mentioned earlier, it’s already dead, so I didn’t think it was significant.”
Elias stared into my eyes as if determined to discern whether I was telling the truth. With nothing to hide, I met his gaze confidently.
By extending my senses, I could see the mysterious flickering of his irises and the pitch-black pupils at their center more clearly.
In addition, the subtle scent wafting from his skin, the occasional sound of him swallowing, and the flow of mana gently enveloping his large and powerful body revealed more about the person known as Elias Rachdel.
“For now…”
He closed his eyes briefly, then opened them again.
“Let’s leave it at that.”
Though he didn’t explicitly say he believed me, I was satisfied with that.
“Okay.”
Smiling brightly, I reached out to him. Instinctively, he started to push my hand away, but for some reason, he held it in the air.
During that moment, I gently brushed away the stray hair on his forehead.
“I think you have a really handsome forehead.”
His eyebrows shot up, probably surprised by the unexpected comment.
“…Praising me won’t make everything go your way.”
“What are you talking about?”
I chuckled at his amusing remark.
“Do you think I’m a fool? Even with all my might, even with my life, very little…… goes my way.”
I almost said “nothing at all,” but that sounded too extreme, so I changed it to “very little.”
The world had come to an end, and everyone, friend or foe, had perished, but I ultimately succeeded in my revenge by driving my sword into the jaw of the Demon Dragon Ermitar, which had laid waste to the land.
I had stepped into a new world that might be rich in resources and met the person who would become my Pair.
So, it wasn’t over yet.
I would make sure to form a Pair with Elias, who seemed reluctant to trust me, and have children. Then, I would revive all my comrades trapped in soul stones.
And I would say,
‘After putting in a bit more effort, I found I could actually get quite a lot to go my way.’
