The Reward for Saving The World is a Husband - Chapter 15
I had to walk a tightrope where a few centimeters could mean the difference between survival and falling behind. Knowing well that any lapse in focus would lead to a fall, I couldn’t afford to look elsewhere.
And now, it truly didn’t matter whether my parents abandoned me or lost me by mistake. They must be dead anyway.
“Then, may I try to look for them?”
“Why would you?”
“Whether you know it or not, your hair color is quite unique. It wouldn’t be hard to find your family or relatives.”
I stared at Elias as he spoke, then gave a small nod.
“Thank you for caring.”
Maybe he just wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible, but even so, it didn’t make me feel bad.
He could have handed me over to someone like Beric, but instead, he wanted to find my family, showing that he was a good person.
‘I’m really glad.’
Gratefully finishing the food on the table, I used a fork to eat a shockingly sweet piece of dark brown bread, my hands trembling with excitement.
It tasted like heaven…!
I resisted the urge to take out my comrades’ soul stones and tell them, “Look at this, can you believe something like this exists in the world?” while I continued to savor it with my fork.
“My Lord, a messenger from the temple has arrived.”
‘…Temple?’
Curiosity piqued me at the word long erased from my world.
A man in white clothing entered the dining room right after the announcement.
“Good to see you again, My Lord.”
“What brings you here, Cardinal?”
Elias responded with a rather displeased expression.
“I’ve come unannounced to deliver a letter from the Saintess. As it concerns the safety of the continent, please forgive my intrusion.”
Elias unfolded the letter handed to him by the cardinal right there on the spot. After reading it, a crooked smile formed on his lips.
“You’re quite well-informed.”
“Well, she hears the voice of God directly.”
I had to struggle not to show my surprise. So, this world truly had a god and someone who could hear its voice directly.
“She requests your immediate presence.”
“…Me?”
Seeing Elias’s gaze directed at me, I asked with wide eyes, and he nodded.
“Yes. Of course, I will accompany you.”
“Well, in that case, sure. Let us go.”
A smile spread across the Cardinal’s face as he observed our conversation.
“Excellent. Then let’s depart immediately. The temple has already paid for the round-trip gate fee.”
“There’s one more thing I’d like to ask.”
“Please, go ahead.”
“Although she appears fine, her injuries are severe. I’d like to request the Saintess to personally heal her.”
“Of course, the Saintess will take care of that.”
“I’ll trust the cardinal’s word.”
By now, the wounds wrapped in bandages had probably healed quite a bit, but I kept silent. I was curious to see if this world truly had ‘divine miracles.’
Elias had a servant bring a cloak and then draped it around me, fastening it securely.
As he tied the knot, I noticed his expression soften ever so slightly. When he turned to leave, I gently grabbed his hand.
He paused and looked down at me.
“Why are you holding my hand?”
“Why? Is it not allowed?”
He glanced at our joined hands before pulling his elbow back, bringing us closer by a hand’s width.
“Did no one tell you that grabbing a man’s hand can be dangerous?”
“What’s wrong with holding my chaperone’s hand in an unfamiliar place?”
“You think I’m your chaperone?”
“Then, are you not?”
He seemed at a loss for words, furrowing his brow as he stared at me. Then, he spread his fingers and interlaced them with mine, holding my hand firmly.
I had wondered why holding a hand could be dangerous, but now I began to understand a little.
Once our hands were clasped like this, I never wanted to let go!
