The Reward for Saving The World is a Husband - Chapter 16
A gate was a large-scale magic circle that allowed for instant travel over long distances.
To use them, one had to pay a hefty fee to the agency that maintained, serviced, and powered them. Thanks to the temple paying the fee in advance, we were able to pass through without any additional procedures.
With Melder chattering away about all sorts of things, I was never bored.
Although Elias occasionally shot Melder an irritated look, he didn’t tell him to shut up. Perhaps it was because I was listening intently.
‘Next time, I’ll make sure to sit across Elias wherever we go.’
Honestly, the most entertaining thing wasn’t Melder’s chatter but my Pair’s face.
‘Maybe the god of this world granted my wish instead of the god who vanished from my world.’
While my ears were open to Melder, I kept stealing glances at Elias, feeling content. Before I knew it, our carriage had arrived at our destination.
“Quick, wasn’t it?” Melder boasted as he stepped out of the carriage first, despite not having used a single bit of mana to open the gate.
Elias, who had gotten off before me, pushed Melder aside and extended his hand to me.
‘Does he want to hold hands again?’
Debating as I looked at Elias’s large hand and handsome face, I gently intertwined my fingers with his.
Who knew when he might change his mind again? I had to seize the opportunity when it arose!
“…..”
He raised an eyebrow, looking at me with an expression that said he had a lot to say. Then, with his other arm, he wrapped it around my waist and gently lifted me out of the carriage.
‘Oh…’
What should I say?
It was fascinating and novel to be treated like such a fragile being.
Did Elias think I looked too weak to step out of the carriage on my own?
If someone had treated me like that in my world, I would have kicked their asses, but Elias’s actions didn’t bother me at all.
The feeling of his strong arm around my waist tickled something in my chest, making me want to laugh.
‘Come to think of it, I’ve often seen Pairs standing closely, with arms around each other’s waists.’
They looked so supportive of each other, standing close and leaning on one another, and it always looked both enviable and pleasant.
‘Since Elias put his arm around my waist, I suppose it’s okay if I do the same?’
Just before his arm left my waist, I quickly wrapped my arm around his.
“…?”
With one hand interlocked with his and my other arm around his waist, our bodies naturally pressed together. Tilting my head to avoid burying my face in his chest, I met his gaze as he looked down at me.
“What are you doing?”
Seeing the mix of confusion and annoyance on his face, I slowly removed my hand from his waist.
“I thought it would be okay…”
Elias let out a small laugh.
“If you find it hard to walk, just tell me. I can carry you on my back or in my arms.”
His words made my eyes widen in surprise.
“Carry me?”
That would be… that would be incredibly fun!
‘But… I can’t lie to Elia about that….’
I glanced down at our interlocked hands. I knew that just leaving my hand there without pushing it away was already a significant concession on his part.
‘Greed can lead to trouble if I ask for too much at once.’
I decided I could wait to be carried another time. There would be other opportunities.
“I’m fine. I can walk.”
“…Alright, then.”
