The Reward for Saving The World is a Husband - Chapter 21
“Because there might be something I can do to help.”
Oh… This time, I was slightly tempted.
‘But the saintess and Elias didn’t seem very close. What if I just end up making him angrier?’
While debating whether getting help from the saintess would be beneficial or counterproductive, I sensed someone rapidly approaching and looked up.
‘Hmm…?’
Barely a few seconds after sensing his presence, the door burst open. Elias stood there with an absolutely terrifying expression.
“The temple, dare…”
Each word he spat out through gritted teeth was chilling.
“Using god’s name to pull such dirty tricks.”
While the saintess fumbled for words, Elias strode toward the bath where I was sitting.
Sensing a threat to the saintess, the holy knights who had been hiding quickly rushed to block Elias.
However, they did not draw their swords, likely knowing that doing so would make the situation irreparable.
Ignoring them, Elias approached me.
“Did you come to get me?”
I asked with a bright expression, rising from the bath. His brows furrowed even more.
“Come here. Now.”
He said in an urgent voice, extending his hand toward me. As soon as I took his hand, he yanked me toward him.
Holding me with one arm like a child, he roughly tore off his cloak and draped it over me.
His face, which was very close, was filled with anger.
‘He must have been worried about me.’
A soft, ticklish feeling spread in my chest like feathers settling.
I felt incredibly happy knowing he considered me someone to protect and had rushed here, worried.
Still, I couldn’t let myself laugh out loud in this situation, so I did my best to calm my twitching lips.
Feeling a sudden sense of reassurance, I wrapped my arms around Elias’s neck and rested my head on his shoulder. He glanced down at me.
He studied my face intently, as if inspecting it, but he didn’t say anything about me clinging to him.
Feeling as if I had been given permission, I felt even happier. Unable to contain myself, I smiled brightly, which only deepened the wrinkles on his brow.
“I’ll invite a trustworthy priest to treat your wounds.”
“Okay. I’m fine, so don’t worry.”
Instead of replying, he pulled the cloak up and covered my head with it.
Without a word, without even a glance, Elias turned and left the room. No one dared to stop him.
As we walked away, I heard the saintess mutter weakly.
“Oh, of all people… why him…?”
As I suspected, Elias and the saintess didn’t like each other much. It seemed I made the right choice not asking for her help.
* * *
Elias didn’t stop walking until we were out of the temple.
Since he didn’t seem inclined to put me down, I stayed quietly wrapped in the cloak, nestled in his arms.
‘Elias’s scent…’
Not satisfied with just the scent lingering on his clothes, I nuzzled closer, pressing my nose to the exposed skin of his neck and inhaled deeply. His clean skin had a refreshing yet warm scent.
‘Feels good.’
My heart beat in a different rhythm than usual.
The warmth and firmness of his body, the taut muscles flexing beneath his clothes, and the strong, rapid pulse of his heart were all palpable.
How wonderful would it be if I could stay this close to him every day, inhaling his scent, I thought without realizing it. So, I tightened my arms around his neck and buried my face against him until I could barely breathe.
“……”
Elias suddenly stopped, even though the carriage was just ahead.
I could feel the tension in the arms holding me and in the firm body I was leaning against.
“……?”
Wondering if something was wrong, I lifted my head, causing the cloak he had draped over me to slip off.
Thanks to this, I could see his face, which was wearing an unfamiliar expression that was difficult to interpret.
